Canada’s push towards decarbonization is accelerating. This summer, Deep Sky will launch its cutting-edge direct air capture facility, one of the most ambitious carbon removal projects in the country. Federal support through the Energy Innovation Program is fueling a wave of new carbon management technologies, while Heidelberg Materials is breaking global ground with the world’s first full-scale CCUS-enabled cement plant in Edmonton. Against this backdrop of progress, the spotlight turns to Carbon Capture Canada 2025, Canada’s National CCUS Convention, returning to Edmonton from September 23 to 25. Industry leaders, policymakers, investors, and trailblazing innovators will converge to shape the future of carbon capture and storage in Canada and beyond.
Carbon Capture Canada is a convergence of over 5,000 attendees, 150 expert speakers, and 100 exhibiting organizations across more than 50,000 square feet of exhibition space. Attendees will engage in strategic plenaries, interactive Executive Dialogues, hands-on workshops, site tours, and the awards gala honoring excellence in CCUS innovation and leadership.
The program is structured around four strategic pillars that reflect Canada’s unique strengths and global ambitions:
Geopolitical Strategic Advantage – Canada’s stable policy environment, anchored by the CCUS Investment Tax Credit and championed by leaders like Premier Mark Carney, is attracting global capital in a fragmented energy landscape. Sessions will explore cross-sector collaboration, strategies to de-risk private investment, and pathways to build trust with Indigenous and rural communities.
Capital Investment in Infrastructure – Alberta is home to flagship projects like the Pathways Alliance Cold Lake hub, Syncrude’s Glacier Phase 2, and Shell’s Polaris and Quest facilities. This pillar explores how public and private capital are converging to build pipelines, hubs, and storage corridors that will define Canada’s low-carbon economy.
Technology & Innovation at Scale – From modular carbon capture units to next-generation direct air capture (DAC), Canada is emerging as a launchpad for transformative clean-technology. Sessions will feature case studies from Carbon Engineering, Svante, CleanO2, and others, alongside discussions on AI-driven optimization and commercialization pathways that turn prototypes into full-scale deployments.
Carbon Markets & Climate Finance – With the world’s first government-backed DAC offset protocol and landmark corporate offtake agreements, including Microsoft and RBC’s 10,000-tonne purchase from Deep Sky, Canada is charting new territory in carbon finance. This pillar will examine how transparent, high-integrity markets can unlock billions in investment and position Canada as a global climate-finance hub.
The opening day kicks off with breakfast networking and a ministerial address from Alberta’s Energy and Minerals minister. A must-see keynote will spotlight the investment strategies required to scale CCUS across heavy-industry sectors.
Panel sessions bring a global perspective. “Global Synergy for Carbon Solutions” will unite leaders from Canada, Denmark, and South Korea to explore cross-border partnerships that de-risk emerging technologies. In “Scaling Carbon Dioxide Removal,” executives from Climeworks, SLB Capturi, and Worley will map out the path from lab-scale prototypes to gigatonne-scale impact.
Executive Dialogues invite delegates to choose from four thematic tracks: Carbon Markets, Capital & Finance, Technology, and AI & Digitalization. These sessions combine expert insights with peer collaboration, ensuring every delegate leaves with actionable takeaways.
Hands-on workshops and optional site tours offer a rare glimpse into operational storage hubs and capture facilities. Expert-led workshops will tackle community engagement strategies, regulatory hurdles, and digital-system integration that will equip attendees with practical tools to advance their projects.
The exhibition floor will feature the latest capture technologies, storage solutions, and financing platforms. Innovation Zones dedicated to DAC, modular systems, and AI-driven monitoring will spotlight tomorrow’s technologies. Knowledge Bars, sponsored by Baker Hughes, Enbridge, Pathways Alliance, and Technip Energies, will host technical sessions throughout the event.
On the evening of September 24, the Carbon Capture Canada Awards Gala will celebrate industry trailblazers whose leadership, collaboration, and breakthroughs that are shaping the CCUS landscape. From pioneering projects to visionary partnerships, the ceremony will honour the individuals and organizations driving real-world decarbonization.
